The Reason I Started TanksEtc
I come by my love of tanks
honestly…My uncle was a senior staff member of General George Patton. Growing
up I was lucky to hear firsthand accounts of some of the greatest tank battles
in history. The way my uncle talked about “Sherman” I thought it was another
member of Patton’s staff. In a way I guess it was. During the Korean War he was
assigned to be one of Gen. Douglas McArthur’s top advisors. Gen. MacArthur was
a personal hero of my dad. My dad, who was my personal hero, served as an
officer in the US Navy. So, you can understand why my father named me Douglas.
I remember going to my uncle’s house on Sunday afternoons and listening to Uncle
Horace and dad swapping war stories. Uncle Horace lived up until my mid-thirties
and even in his later days he would recount the days he spent alongside two of
the greatest US war heroes of all time. So out of love, gratitude and respect
for my father, uncle and all who served so gallantly, we at TANKS ETC. are
proud to create art from the legendary machines that played their individual
roles in WWII.
